Health & Safety eModule Questions

The Health and Safety Module of the eSystem assists organizational efforts in regard to your Health and Safety Program. It includes components like the Annual Workplan, Health and Safety compliance programs, Forms and Supporting Documents, OSHA 300 Recordkeeping Spreadsheet and much more. All of the items ILC has assembled are designed to assist you in maintaining compliance and a safe workplace. The monthly Health & Safety eModule Questions are one of the items offered. Technical Challenge Question: The eSystem has a program for Emergency Action and Fire Prevention, plus safety rules that have applications in various locations throughout a typical work facility. Do you know where to find it?

Administrative Challenge Question: Locate your General Safety Rules in the eSystem. Can you locate the general rule for how close storage items can come to a fire system sprinkler head?

Technical Challenge Question: Once an ergonomic evaluation has been completed of a workstation (by your staff or a third party), do you know where to place it in your records? (Hint: Look in the Recordkeeping drawer.)

Administrative Challenge Question: If someone asked for help evaluating potential risks associated with their computer workstation, where would you look for guidance within you eModule? (Hint: Look in the Forms & Supporting Documents drawer.)

Technical Challenge Question: The optional training matrix in your eSystem can be a useful tool to establish required training for the various work groups. To remind yourself to check the employee training needs; put a placeholder in your Outlook or other electronic calendar each month (e.g. the first Monday of the month) to check the Training Matrix and the schedule you have established.

Administrative Challenge Question: Where can you find the written housekeeping rules and procedures developed to minimize the accumulations of combustible waste? (Hint: General Safety Rules document and AWAIR Section 6)

Technical Challenge Question: Once you have completed PPE hazard analysis you will need to save the documentation and create an inventory. Do you know here in your PPE program, recordkeeping system to store your hazard analysis forms for later reference? Can you locate you PPE inventory spreadsheet and provide information regarding the PPE in use at your facility? (Hint: Look in the Forms & Supporting Documents drawer.)

Administrative Challenge Question: OSHA requires as part of a Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) program that a PPE hazard analysis be conducted documenting the PPE selected and the rationale behind the selection of a particular type of PPE used to address the hazard. The eSystem has a PPE hazard analysis form, can you locate it within the H & S module?

Technical Challenge Question:
Once  you have completed a Job Safety Analysis and it has been reviewed, approved by your team, where should it be placed for recordkeeping and future reference?

Administrative Challenge Question:
Identifying hazards and developing controls for a job or task that is assigned to an employee or group of employees can be time consuming, even more difficult to get started with a blank page. The eSystem has a blank Job Safety Analysis (JSA) form, can you locate it?

Technical Challenge Question:
Based on good industry practice, results of the work area jobsite inspections need to be provided by the inspector or inspection team (e.g. employee safety committee, third party evaluator) to the Safety Program Coordinator, director, etc. reviewed and then forwarded with recommendations to the Foremen (for items pertaining to behaviors) and area Safety Program Coordinator (for items pertaining to conditions). Once items are reported corrective action needs to occur. The Safety Program Coordinator(s) and the Foremen will need to be responsible for taking corrective action. As an exercise, verify this has been performed recently. Once these actions are completed, where is a good place to document and store this information within your eSystem?

Administrative Challenge Question:
Safety surveys of work sites should be performed throughout the year on a periodic basis to determine potential hazards which may be encountered in the normal course of operations. Inspections may be conducted by the Safety Program Coordinator, insurance representatives, outside consultants, or other appropriate, concerned parties. May is a good time to review your worksite inspection plan and store those prior safety inspections & photo reports (internally conducted or third party) in the appropriate recordkeeping folder. Can you locate the 2017 Workplan and proper recordkeeping file location in your eSystem?

Technical Challenge Question:
Emergency procedures can be general or very specific in nature. If you were to develop a more specific detailed procedure for severe weather, where is a good place to store this information within your eSystem?

Administrative Challenge Question:
April is a good time to review your written emergency action plan, conduct drills and provide training on your emergency action program, including fire and severe weather protection. Can you locate the Emergency Action/Fire Prevention Program in your eSystem? Do you know where your helpful Emergency Procedures flip chart is?

Technical Challenge Question:
Periodically as the players change in your organization these people and their role need to be identified, documented and information communicated to the employees as necessary. One of the best ways to start this process is to update, the Who's Who Resource Directory in your eSystem. Where would you find this information? Can you open it up and check the names and roles of the staff currently listed for accuracy?

Administrative Challenge Question:
